About Converso

Canada's telephone town hall company. Since 2011.

We started with a simple belief: that democratic participation requires more than a press release. That the people affected by a decision deserve to be heard in real time — not just informed after the fact. Everything we've built since 2011 is in service of that belief.

Who we are

A managed service. A Canadian team. A proven track record.

Converso is Canada's leading fully managed telephone town hall and community engagement company. We are not a software platform you license and figure out yourself. We are a team of experienced communications and engagement professionals who staff every event from planning through post-event debrief.

Our clients include the Government of Alberta, the City of Toronto, the Ontario Medical Association, AUPE, UFCW Canada, Vancouver Coastal Health, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and dozens more across every sector and every province.

We are explicitly non-partisan. We serve governments of all political stripes, unions of all affiliations, and communities of all backgrounds with the same rigour and professionalism. The only side we're on is the side of meaningful, two-way communication.

We give people a voice.
That's our tagline and our mission in four words. Every event we run — from a budget consultation to a ratification vote to a wildfire evacuation response — is an act of democratic participation. We build the technology and the process. The community does the talking.
The team

The people behind every event.

Converso's senior leadership team has a combined 70+ years in communications, government relations, crisis management, and civic engagement. They're not account managers — they're practitioners who have personally run hundreds of events.

Carl Mavromichalis

President & CEO

25 years in communications and public engagement. Since 2011, Carl has personally produced 300+ telephone town halls — including the Fort McMurray wildfire evacuation response (17 events, 30 days, 58,000 displaced residents), the Government of Alberta's Annual Budget town hall series, and 40 emergency events during the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020.

Associate, CS&A International (crisis management consulting). Honours Bachelor of Arts, University of Guelph. Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Relations, Ryerson University. Accredited Business Communicator (ABC).

Vieri Berretti

Vice President

With Converso since 2017. Vieri leads the Government of Alberta relationship — our longest and most complex client engagement, spanning Annual Budget town halls (2016–2024), post-budget town halls, COVID-19 emergency response, wildfire response, and 90+ stakeholder events.

30 years in hospitality and customer service. Government relations and lobbying background. His experience navigating complex institutional relationships makes him an invaluable partner for government and public sector clients who require more than just an event — they require a trusted advisor.

Christine Kemp

Vice President

With Converso since 2019. Christine brings 15 years of experience in communications, politics, and civic engagement. As a former constituency assistant at Toronto City Hall, she understands from the inside how elected officials think, how political staff operate, and what it takes to serve the public well under public scrutiny.

Her institutional knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal government operations is especially valuable for public sector and healthcare clients who need an engagement partner who already speaks their language. Bachelor of Arts, University of Guelph.

Our history

Built in the field — not in a boardroom.

Every capability Converso has was developed in response to a real client need, under real-world conditions. Here's how the company grew.

2011

Converso founded

Carl Mavromichalis founds Converso with a focus on telephone-based civic engagement for governments and public institutions. First telephone town halls delivered for Canadian public sector clients.

2016

Fort McMurray wildfire — 17 events in 30 days

The largest wildfire evacuation in Canadian history. Converso deploys within days of the evacuation order, producing 17 emergency telephone town halls in 30 consecutive days — reaching 58,000 displaced residents. Works directly with the Premier, Deputy-Premier, Minister of Municipal Affairs, and the Public Affairs Bureau. Also begins the Government of Alberta Annual Budget town hall series, which runs annually through 2024.

2017

Vieri Berretti joins as Vice President

With the Government of Alberta relationship expanding, Vieri Berretti joins to lead the account and drive the company's government sector growth.

2019

Christine Kemp joins as Vice President

Christine Kemp brings her civic engagement and government relations background to Converso, strengthening the team's capacity for complex public sector and healthcare engagements.

2020

COVID-19 emergency — 40+ events in 5 months

Converso produces 40 COVID-19 emergency town halls for the Government of Alberta (March–July 2020), 8 events for Alberta Emergency Management Agency, a 100,000-resident session for the Region of Durham, 5 COVID town halls for the City of Mississauga, and 26 flood recovery events for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo — all in the same year.

2021+

Healthcare and union sectors expand

Vancouver Coastal Health begins its ongoing Open Board Forum series. Major Canadian unions including AUPE, UFCW, PSAC, and SEIU West become regular clients. The Ontario Medical Association's "Stop the Crisis" public advocacy campaign reaches 300,000 community members across 10 telephone town halls.

2025

500+ events and growing

Converso passes 500 telephone town halls delivered. Active pipeline includes OPSEU conventions, multiple UFCW locals, Alberta Federation of Labour, Unifor National, UBCM, and government clients from coast to coast. The City of Toronto 2025 Budget Consultation achieves a 36.15% participation rate — among the highest ever recorded for a large-scale telephone engagement event.
